“The ghats of Varanasi are riverfront stairs that lead you down to the Ganges, a well-known river that flows from India to Bangladesh, serving as a large piece of people’s beliefs and livelihoods. Immediately upon entering this area, you can feel its strong aura. Many people come here to bathe in the holy river, go for a boat ride, and even to be put to rest after being cremated, as it is considered a very holy part of India. Personally, I wanted to focus on capturing the people of Varanasi and their individuality and unique way of life. This photo was one of the first I captured here, as I was still getting acquainted with the area and getting comfortable being uncomfortable by kindly connecting with locals and asking for their portraits. At this moment, this unique composition unfolded before me. The combination of the ghats and the man in vibrant orange became one of my favorites from this trip. In Varanasi, there is hardly time to review your photos on the spot, everything is happening quickly around you, and if you are not quick, it is easy to miss some unusual and interesting moments. For me, this image represents Varanasi’s colorful and vibrant atmosphere, which can be seen in the locals’ traditional wear and way of life. Every moment in this city is memorable—if you have been to Varanasi, you may understand that every moment may have many emotions attached to it—it is an overwhelming sensation of the senses, always.” ? @mrdivine?Varanasi, India ??
