And some Aurora watching tips- save for later?
?The season of Aurora has started and will last until the middle of April 2021
? it is the solar activity (not the month) that decides if it is good time to go “Aurora hunting”.
?but up in the North even a weak solar activity gives great Northern Lights
? the success rate in Northern Norway can be up to 80%. But this stills leaves some nights without Aurora – so plan for at least 3 nights
? Northern Norway comes under the Aurora oval every evening – making it a comfortable place to watch them (in many other places the Aurora comes after 3 in the morning)
?when you go “Aurora hunting” you try to find the place with clear sky and away from the artificial lights.
? Several places in Northern Norway are located strategically: close to both the coast and the inland. This is important because if there are clouds on the coast you can always go further into the countryside and vice versa. Many other places do not have this flexibility: it is either the coastal climate or the continental climate – so when it is cloudy – no Aurora.
?fun fact: the Northern and the Southern lights are identical twins
?Nordlys – literally “Northern Light” is the Norwegian name for this phenomenon.
