On the eastern side of Karijini National Park is the picturesque Fern Pool (also known as Jubara), located at the end of Dales Gorge. The spring-fed pool and waterfall is a significant place for the local Aboriginal people. It’s said that here is where the Dreamtime Creation Serpent lived after writhing from the coast through the Pilbara landscape to create the region’s waterways.
It’s one of the most accessible places to swim in the national park and also one of the prettiest. To get there, follow the stairs from the car park to Fortescue Falls, then it’s another 300 metres past the falls on a well-defined trail to the deep, turquoise pool.
To protect the heritage, cultural and environmental values of the area, visitors are encouraged to enter the water quietly and avoid making loud noises.
