@mariorigby is an EXPLORER.

Yes, with all caps, because Mario’s expeditions are epic. He has walked the length of #Africa and accomplished #MarioKayaks, his venture to kayak the length of #LakeOntario in an effort to promote #sustainabletravel and raise conversations around inclusivity and diversity in outdoor spaces.

1. How do you prepare for your long-haul adventures?
I typically spend as much time possible researching if it’s an expedition that hasn’t really been done before. I find similar expeditions and projects, and try to learn from those. However, for more practical and normal adventures, I search online, ask friends, and do a small practice run to feel out what the whole scope of the adventure may be like.

2. What message do you have for young and future explorers?
Young explorers are the gateways to understanding and sharing all what humanity has experienced. It is their duty to recall and share accurate observations of the places they’ve explored in order for others to learn from. Using exploration as a way to bridge the gap between humanity as opposed to exploiting cultures and environments for own personal gains.

3. What most surprised you in your Lake Ontario expedition?
The number one thing that surprised me during my Lake Ontario expedition was realizing how clean the lake was all along my journey. I may have picked up just a few pieces of trash along the route. That says a lot about the efforts of these regions and their care for a clean environment.
