“For centuries, the Walled City has been the cultural heart of Lahore, reaching its zenith under the Mughal rule. Dating back to as early as 1000 AD, it has changed hands between Mughal, Sikh and British rule, containing architecture from distant echoes and eras.

In this image, a group of Sikh pilgrims makes their way by foot through the maze of winding streets within Lahore’s Walled City. The narrow passages of the Walled City appear as monuments that become markers in time with silent dialogue embedded into the walls from passing pilgrims. The act of pilgrimage lends itself to introspection and the internal search and dialogue we have with ourselves, intimate and expansive much like the journey of strangers like these.

During trips like this one, I prefer to observe and wait for the opportunity to capture the right moment where lighting, mood, and composition present themselves together—this was one such moment. As I saw the light diffuse through the white sheet hung between the buildings, I took a step back from the group as they passed through and shot this image. Through it, I can still feel the small tiles packed tightly beneath my feet, the smell of incense and rich cuisine, and the busy sound of colorful bazaars we passed along the way.

When I look back at this image and others in my collection, it is these sentiments that stimulate my senses and guide my vision as a photographer and artist.” ? @sachdhanjal ?Lahore, Pakistan ?? Best Travel Photo
