“A solo backpacking trip through Ladakh in northern India took me to Thiksey Monastery in Leh District, where on this day I was searching for water for relief from the scorching summer heat. The many levels of the monastery were dotted with monks chatting and doing their daily chores, allowing me to watch them from all kinds of perspectives. When the reds of their robes suddenly aligned perfectly against the white backdrop of the monastery, it made me forget all about what I was doing! I had to capture the scene unfolding in front of me. This small collage reminds me of the wonderful days I spent traveling solo: some were spent lonely like the little monk in the first picture, while on others I found myself sharing lovely conversations with the locals of the region.
