Situ Kamojing is a lake to collect rainwater and become a source of irrigation for the local people’s rice fields. The lake on the south side of this toll road has an area of 60 thousand hectares and is a center of entertainment and recreation for local people and tourists outside the city.
Situ Kamojing is one of the natural lakes in the middle of the city

The word Situ in Sundanese means a small lake because the land is sunken so it is the best place for rainwater absorption. Of course, this abundant collection or puddle of water has many benefits for the people around Kamojing.
One of the enormous benefits for the local community is overcoming the problem of flooding because it can be the last place for rainwater. In addition, it is also a means of irrigation for the residents’ rice fields with a dam to regulate the passage of water to the rice fields.

The total area of rice fields is around 12.5 hectares and has become a source of water for the land around Kamojing so that it does not experience drought in the dry season. This small lake becomes a rainwater deposit and will be transformed into soils to remain fertile and productive.
The condition of the lake is still natural and as if it is untouched by human hands and provides a natural view typical of tourism from a lake. Every morning and evening, people visit this lake to enjoy its natural beauty or as a means of sport.

The road around Situ Kamojing is already smooth and well with a cast of concrete so that it is not easily damaged if exposed to rainwater. People use it for walks on the edge of the lake using bicycles or motorbikes and some are jogging.
On the side of the road there is a blue iron fence so that the lake is kept clean from discarded garbage. Villagers can enter the edge of the lake by asking permission from the manager to fish or seeing firsthand the condition of the beautiful lake water.

Usually, visitors relax at a café on the edge of the lake to see the beautiful view of the water source and take pictures with the camera. In addition, there are also visitors who choose to be outside the iron fence to enjoy the beautiful panorama.
Every year in August which coincides with Indonesia’s independence day, the community will spill on the lake to hold Gubyak Guyub events by showering or throwing themselves into the lake to look for fish or play water together.
The land in Situ Kamojing is indeed very concave like a sea and can be seen from the side of the lake because it appears to have a coastline like the sea. Of course if the water is blown away by the wind, it will cause waves or ripples to roll like waves in the ocean.

Local people also often use Situ Kamojing Lake as a vehicle for fishing competitions because the place is very large. In addition, the location around the lake is also used for art performances such as music concerts or competitions during August and other events.
This lake is so popular that there is a song called Pamandangan Indah Situ Kamojing and sung by Darso and can download mp3 songs on the internet. This lake is used for irrigation of rice fields and once made the Cikaranggelam river embankment burst due to heavy rain.
Lots of visitors come to this tourist location to treat their curiosity because they often see Situ Kamojing on television and take photos with their cellphones. This is because this small lake is often used as a place for filming soap operas or video clips.

Meanwhile, there was a story in the community that Situ Kamojing was inhabited by a stumped crocodile. According to folklore, that the history of the origin of the crocodile is the son of Ki Anom and Ni Icih who used to live on the edge of the lake and the crocodile was to guard the lake.
The crocodile was formerly named Ki Saiman and his profession as a fish catcher in the lake so that he spent his time there every day. The local community has no knowledge of how the stumped crocodile came into being, so it is a mystery until now.

However, the truth of this folklore cannot be known because until now there is no reliable source regarding this history. This has always been associated with child victims who had drowned in the lake because they were dragged into the current below.
Situ Kamojing’s address is in Kamojing village, Cikampek sub-district, Karawang district, West Java 41373. The exact location is south of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road as the southeastern tip of Karawang bordering the city of Purwakarta.

Tourists from out of town don’t need to worry because there are already several hotels around the Situ Kamojing area. The nearest hotel is Prime Plaza Hotel Purwakarta in the east and the distance is about 1.5 km or Prime Biz Hotel Karawang in the west about 2 km.
The area around the lake is also busy because of the many housing and residences, one of which is the Green Kamojing Cluster. This residential location is on the north side of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road and offers middle to upper housing with types 36 and 45.
