Rowo Jombor comes from two words, namely Rowo because this area is often flooded and Jombor because it is in Jombor Village which has now changed its name to Krakit Village. You can find this explanation in pdf format.

The puddle is getting higher during the rainy season because from the northwest there are two rivers, namely Dengkeng River and Ujung Kali. These two rivers always overflow when it rains so that the overflow leads to Rowo Jombor.

The irrigation channel was built in 1917 by making a 1 km long tunnel through the mountains around the swamp and gutters above the Dengker river. This is the legend of the Rawa Jombor bulus pesugihan featuring a creepy waiter.

The construction of this irrigation channel was completed in 1921. Every year Sinuwun Pakubuwono X visits Rowo Jombor, even though he is just seeing the scenery well by the boat.

The sugar factory which was previously managed by the Dutch government went bankrupt, along with the entry of Japanese occupation. Rowo Jombor was then used as a reservoir built by the Japanese government on the embankment around the swamp in 1943-1944.

The construction of this embankment used forced labor or often referred to as Romusha. The construction of the embankment changed the area of Rowo Jombor, which was originally around 500 hectares, to 180 hectares with a 5 m wide embankment.

Rowo Jombor was still used as a reservoir, even though the Japanese colonial period had ended. In 1956, the Klaten government built a resting place for visitors and then designated Rowo Jombor as a tourist spot.

After the New Order in 1967-1968, the city government of Klaten used political prisoners to improve Rowo Jombor. Repairs were made by widening the embankment which was previously only 5 m to 12 m. This work was completed in 7 months with a workforce of 1,700 people.
