The city of Banyuwangi is located at the eastern tip of the island of Java. It can be said that Banyuwangi is the first city in Java to be greeted by the sun. The rays of dawn will wake up every living thing and plant and will be followed by the distinctive sound of a rooster in the morning.
Talking about sunlight, plants really need energy from sunlight for their photosynthesis.
The flowers begin to bloom and the green leaves add to the beauty of nature. No wonder Banyuwangi has many beautiful gardens and one of them is Sritanjung Park.
Parks are one of the most visited places for family vacations. How not, every park is always a lot of small children playing and running.
This is a moment that makes the heart feel calm and comfortable. Therefore, many people visit the park on weekends to exercise, unwind or seek entertainment.
Cool Design
Sritanjung has been designed with a beautiful and classic concept. The shade of the trees makes the atmosphere of this tourist spot beautiful. This atmosphere makes visitors feel at home for a long time here.
The hot weather is not an obstacle, because the shady trees will keep out the sun. Architecture with a predominantly circular design makes it look comfortable to look at.
The condition of Sritanjung is fairly well maintained. No wonder this park is very clean and neat. In the middle there is a fountain with water splashing like a child jumping around for joy. The existence of this fountain adds to the feeling of relaxation and comfort.

In addition, there is a mini amphitheater (a kind of open stage performance) for art performances. With the green plants here, you can relax and unwind from your daily activities.
Historical Origins
During the colonial colonial period, this park was still a field planted with two banyan trees in the middle. Meanwhile, the edges of the field are planted with sapodilla trees, so that the field looks shady.
In the early 2000s, Sritanjung Park had changed with a fence that was built on the edge and left a large banyan tree in the middle. This park is full of wrecked vehicles because it is adjacent to the traffic accident unit office.

Adipura Cup replica
Banyuwangi was the city of Adipura in 1994 and 1995. Therefore, a large replica of the Adipura trophy was built here. However, a few years later the replica of the Adipura trophy was removed and replaced with a fountain.
In 2012, Sritanjung underwent renovations. The fence surrounding the park was removed, then facilities such as benches and garden lights were added. Laka’s office was then moved, so that the land could be used by kiosks and accommodate street vendors.
Legend of Sritanjung
The sritanjung used for the name of this park comes from the folklore of Banyuwangi. The meaning of the name “Sri Tanjung” is “fragrant water”, besides that the name Sri Tanjung is associated with the fragrant-scented Tanjung flower. That said, tells about the loyalty of a wife who is willing to die to prove her loyalty.
Sritanjung is the name of the wife of the governor Sidopekso from a kingdom on the eastern tip of Java Island led by a king named Prabu Sulahkromo. It is said that Sritanjung is a figure of a beautiful and virtuous woman. So that King Sulahkromo was tempted by him.

Various methods were used by Prabu Sulahkromo to get Sritanjung, but these efforts were in vain because of Sritanjung’s loyalty to her husband.
Until one day the King slandered the wife of the governor Sidopekso for seducing and having an affair with him. As a result, the governor was suddenly angry and did not accept his wife’s explanation and killed him.
Before he died, Sritanjung made a final request if he died, he wanted his body to be washed into a murky river. If the blood makes the water smell fishy then he is guilty, but if the water smells good then he is innocent.
It turned out that after the body was thrown into the river, the river water turned clear and fragrant. This made the patih regret and he unconsciously said the word “Banyu Wangi”.
This is where the name of the city of Banyuwangi began. An appreciation for the loyalty of a wife who is willing to die to prove her honesty. And finally the name Sritanjung was used as the name of the garden in Banyuwangi.

Existing Facilities
The facilities at Sritanjung Park are quite complete, there are benches in every corner of the park. These benches are under the trees, so it makes it a shady place. In addition, there are also many trash cans.
This trash can is divided into two, specifically for organic and non-organic waste. So, there is no more reason to litter. As a model society, of course we keep the environment clean and don’t always blame the government.

There is something unique about the toilet in this tourist spot. The toilet here is built into the ground, where we will pass the stairs to enter the toilet.
Therefore this toilet is only visible from the roof when viewed from the garden. Moreover, every visitor must take off his sandals when going to the toilet. This aims to keep the toilet clean.
