For those of you who visit the Nglanggeran Purba Volcano, you will be charged a retribution fee of IDR 15,000 during the day and IDR 20,000 at night.
As for foreign tourists, the manager charges an entrance ticket of IDR 30,000. The price is very cheap compared to its natural beauty.

Nglanggeran Purba Volcano is one of the mountains located in Yogyakarta Special Region.
This mountain, which has a height of 700m above sea level and an average air temperature of 23-27 degrees Celsius, was once an active volcano, about 60-70 years ago to be precise.
However, over time and natural processes this mountain is now officially declared inactive.

Even though it has the name “Mountain”, if you observe the Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano, it is not shaped like most mountains.
This one mountain is more like a giant rock hill where various flora around it grows.
According to research, Mount Nglanggeran, which is more like a hill, is the peak of the Merapi volcano.
Mount Nglanggeran itself comes from a volcano on the seabed, this volcano is then lifted by natural processes and then becomes land around millions ago.
The peak of the mountain is Mount Gedhe which has a height of about 700 meters above sea level and an area of up to 48 hectares.
Nglanggeran ancient volcano is located in Nglanggeran Village, Patuk District, Gunung Kidul Regency which is located in the Baturagung Mountains.

Route to Location

For those of you who want to visit Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano, there are 3 paths that you can go through.
First, if you are from Wonosari you can pass the Sambipitu Roundabout, after that take the right path towards Bopung Hamlet, the hamlet which is the center for mask crafts, then from Bopung you can go to Nglanggeran Village.
The second route is from Yogyakarta. Arriving in downtown Jogja you can go to Bukit Bintang Patuk, after that go to GCD FM Radio.
Arriving at Radio, take the left lane as far as 7 kilometers towards Ngoro-ngoro Village, which is the location of several transmission stations.
Finally, head to Nglanggeran Village until you meet Pendopo Joglo Kalisongo or Mount Ngalnggeran.
The third line from the north goes to the Bendogantung T-junction in Klaten towards the south passing the Soedjarwadi Colony Soul Hospital.
Then pass through the market and the District or Tugu Wedi, Pesu, Mawen, Teluk, Jogoprayan, Tumpang, Sampang and then through the uphill road towards Baturagung.
The distance that must be passed from Bendogantung to the location is approximately 20 kilometers.

Road access to the location is fairly smooth, because almost all roads leading to the area are well paved.
And for those of you who want to come to the Nglanggeran Purba Volcano tourist attraction, it is recommended to use a private vehicle or rent a vehicle such as a car or motorbike.
The reason is that currently there is no route for public transportation to the mountain location.
A brief History
The name Nglanggeran itself comes from the word nglaggar or in Indonesian breaking.
There are many historical stories related to or associated with Nglanggeran Volcano.
Almost all stories about this mountain legend are amini by local people. One of the most famous stories is the wrath of a Dalang who cursed the villagers.
It is said that according to the story of the surrounding community, hundreds of years ago, the villagers who were dominated by farmers invited a famous puppeteer at that time to hold a thanksgiving party for the harvest.

However, there are some villagers who act carelessly, they play the puppeteer ‘s puppet and when they are playing it, they accidentally destroy the puppeteer’ s puppet.
Long story short, when the puppeteer found out that the puppets had been damaged by some local residents.
So the puppeteer was furious and finally cursed the local villagers to become puppet figures and then dumped them on Nglanggeran Hill.
Around the mountain area there are also several large rocks that are usually used as a place for meditation or meditation.
Some local residents believe that Mount Nglanggeran is guarded by Kyai Ongko Wijoyo and Punokawan puppet figures, namely Semar, Petruk, Gareng and Bagong.
Mystery
In addition to its interesting history, the Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano also has a mystery that not many people know about.

The mystery is about the settlement which is filled only by 7 family heads. This oddity occurred in Tlogo Mardidho, Nglanggeran Wetan Hamlet, Nglanggeran Village, Patuk sub-district, right above the peak of Mount Nglanggeran.
The mysterious mystery of the 7 heads of family originated from the frequent deaths of 8 residents who tried to become permanent residents in the local village.
Likewise, if the population in the village is less than 7 heads of families, the rest of the family or local residents will be attacked by various diseases that lead to death.
From this story, the local residents believed and believed that the local hamlet could only be inhabited by 7 heads of families, neither more nor less.
As for family members whose children get married and have new family members, like it or not, one of the family members has to give in or leave the hamlet.
Most of those who just got married choose to move from Nglanggeran Hamlet and build small families in the hamlet which is under the slopes of the Nglanggeran Purba Volcano.
Enchantment of the Mountain

Not only are the historical stories and mysteries interesting, the Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano also offers an incredibly beautiful natural charm.
It is not surprising that this area has been used as one of the locations for a documentary film entitled General Soedirman, which was starred by a famous Indonesian actor, namely the Duke of Dolken.
The first time we pass through the entrance, our eyes will be immediately treated to the Joglo Kalisongo Pendopo building.
After that, walking up through the path, we will immediately be able to see 3 viewing booths, namely the low, intermediate viewing post and of course the viewing post which is at the top.

It was proven on 19 September 2015 UNESCO set Nglanggeran Village and its Ancient Volcano as Areas Global Geopark Network.

Nglanggeran Volcano with the Nglanggeran Edu program Village for tourism managed to become a candidate in the category Innovation in Non-Governmental Organizations, along with four other Indonesian representatives.
At that time the mountain was competing with 154 countries, 7 regions and more than 400 members of affiliated representatives of the tourism sector, government agencies and local tourism authorities.
Apart from all the advantages above, the Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano also offers sunrise and sunset for anyone who visits it.
To be able to enjoy this beauty, you are advised to come at 05.00 – 06.30 WIB and in the evening around 16.30 – 18.00 WIB.
To be able to reach the top of the mountain, it takes about 1-1.5 hours with the terrain not so difficult, but you still have to be careful and alert, because the track you are going to go through is quite steep and rocky.
The managers have prepared some ropes and other security equipment to make it easier for tourists or climbers to go through the terrain.
Along the road to the top, you will pass fairly narrow stone alleys.
And in one of the passageways there is a large boulder stuck on it. The uniqueness of this rock is also an attraction for climbers.
During the climb at an altitude of about 500 meters above sea level, you will find an embung or dam which has an area of about five thousand square meters.
This embung is functioned as a rainwater reservoir. Later this rainwater will flow to irrigate fruit orchards around the mountain area.
After the dam you will find a camping area not far leading to a small forest.
Nature lovers in this area are usually used to set up tents and spend the night watching the millions of stars scattered in the night sky of the Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano.
At the top of Mount Nglanggeran there is also a spring that never dries up which has the name Sumber Air Comberan.

According to the story of local residents, this spring can make anyone stay young by washing the water on the face.
Besides Sumber Air Comberan, it turns out that the Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano has several more mountains in it, along with the names of these mountains.
From the name, we can already shoot that this mountain is the largest mountain among the mountains contained in the Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano.
On this mountain, tourists or climbers do a lot of activities such as camping, because from the top of this mountain we can almost see the entire natural panorama that is so beautiful and enchanting.
Blencong is the name of an ancient lighting device that uses coconut oil.
The name Blencong is pinned on this mountain because according to residents the shape of this mountain resembles the Blencong which is used for lighting by Kyai Ongko Wijaya and Punokawan.
The people believe that this mountain has a shape of color as the residence of Kyai Ongko Wijaya and Punokawan.
Mount Bongos has a solid black color like charcoal. It is said that this mountain was used as a place for Kyai Ongko Wijoyo and Punokawan to put Blencong or lighting lamps.
According to the story that spreads, this mountain was once the peak of Mount Merapi which was moved by Punokawan.
The mountain is brought to the village of Kemadang Gunung Kidul by way of being picked up using castor wood.
Nature lovers often use this place as an arena for rock climbing. The sharp shape is a challenge for those of you who have a hobby as a rock climber.
This wungu logo can only be seen by people who have a clean heart and do concern or penance.
It is said that the tlogo which is located in the east of Mount Nglanggeran is a bathing place for the angels, and for anyone who has seen this wungu tlogo will get a golden chanting along with a golden tlundak.
This tlogo is believed to be a place for bathing the Sembrani horses ridden by the angels. Believe it or not, in this tlogo, there are marks of Sembrani’s horse’s hooves imprinted on a rock.
This area, which is inhabited by monkeys, bats and snakes, has a myth that the tip of the gadhung tree reaches the top of Mount Merapi.
