With the topography of the area partly in the form of mountains and hills, Purwakarta Regency is rich in natural tourism, ranging from mountain, hill, cave, lake or lake tourism, hot springs to waterfalls or waterfalls.
Some of these natural attractions include Cipancar Hot Springs and Ciracas, Japanese Cave and Dutch Cave, Situ Wanayasa, Million Stone Village, Panenjoan Hill, Langlang Panyawangan Sand, and many others.
While tourist objects in the form of a waterfall, among others: Curug Suhada, Curug Tilu, Cijalu, Ponggang, Cilamaya, Ciseoh, Cisomang, and one more thing that should not be missed is Curug Cipurut.
Being in the area of Mount Burangrang Nature Reserve makes this waterfall tourist attraction maintained its beauty and naturalness. Moreover, the location is not far from the city of Purwakarta, making this waterfall also visited by many tourists.
A brief History
Because it is located at the foot of Mount Burangrang, Curug Cipurut is included in the Mount Burangrang Nature Reserve area.
That is why the management of this waterfall tourism object is handled by the West Java I Natural Resources Conservation Center, while for field operations it is handled by Wanayasa and Sumurugul Villages.
According to the local community, in an area of 4 hectares there are 7 waterfalls in one stream of Curug Cipurut.
It’s just that what is known by the general public and used as a tourist attraction is only 3 waterfalls, namely the Main Curug which is at the end of a cliff with a height of about 25 meters and 2 other waterfalls which are slightly more gentle.
The two waterfalls are often used by visitors for slides.
While the main waterfall, the water falls through the rocks arranged like a ladder, so that visitors can enjoy the falling water from a short distance, both for bathing and just washing their face.
Because this tourist spot is located at the foot of the mountain, the air temperature feels cool, even tending to be cold throughout the day, especially at night.
Sasakala or the origin of the name Curug Cipurut according to history or word of mouth, it is said that because around the waterfall there used to be a purut fruit tree that looks like a small limus fruit.
Purut fruit has a lot of sap so it cannot be consumed. Unfortunately the tree is no longer found around the waterfall area.
There is another mystery story that exists in this area to be precise throughout the area of Mount Burangrang, namely the existence of an endemic animal that looks like a monkey.
The difference is that these animals are small with white fur and often let out loud laughter. That’s why the local people named him Surili, taken from the word “Seuri” which in Sundanese means “laugh”.
How to get there
To go to a tourist location which has an address in Sumurugul Village, Wanayasa District, Purwakarta Regency, West Java Province, visitors can start from the center of Purwakarta City which is about 30 km with a journey of about 1 hour or from Wanayasa City which is about 3 km away. towards the South.
The road condition is relatively good, however, as the character of the upland area, is full of climbs and descents and bends. In addition, the road body is rather narrow, so it requires caution and caution.
The route from the center of Purwakarta City is to follow the road that leads to Wanayasa and when you arrive at Wanayasa, turn the vehicle towards Bojong District.
After 500 meters, you will find a T-junction that leads to Sumunggul Village. Turn the vehicle to the left and pass through a road that is half paved and half still paved with stones.
To go to the parking location of Curug Cipurut, from the T-junction the distance is still about 1.5 km. After parking the vehicle, the journey continues with a walk of approximately 500 meters with a journey of about 15-20 minutes to arrive at the gate of the tourist location.
For tourists who come by using public transportation, from the city of Purwakarta can go to the Simpang Terminal and take the Rural Transportation or minibus that goes to Wanayasa.
Arriving at Wanayasa Terminal, change to take the Rural Transport for Bojong / Sawit and get off at the gate of Sumurugul Village.
From the gate of Sumurugul Village, the journey is continued by walking for about 15-20 minutes or by taking an ojek at a cost of Rp. 10,000 to arrive at the Curug Cipurut gate. If you are still confused or afraid of misdirection, take advantage of maps and GPS with coordinates 6 ° 41’51 ″ S 107 ° 34’20 ″ E.
Enjoying the natural beauty of Curug Cipurut, not only when you are in the waterfall location, but it is already presented when you enter Wanayasa District, because of its location in the hills, so that the green trees become the background of the atmosphere in this area.
This natural beauty will still continue to follow the journey to Curug, because after passing the Guard Post or the counter to buy an entrance ticket, visitors will be treated to a panoramic view of tea plantations and shady trees on either side of the road.
That is why even if you have to walk about 1 km, your footsteps will feel light and you won’t feel tired. It’s just that you have to be careful because the path you follow tends to be slippery, especially during the rainy season.
For those who are not accustomed to long-distance tracking, you should equip with sufficient food and drink supplies. If you don’t bring it, try to buy it at the stalls around the guard post, because along the way and at the waterfall location, there are no food vendors.
After walking and arriving at the location, your eyes will be immediately spoiled by the beautiful water that falls from the top of the cliff with the surrounding trees. There are two waterfalls that are quite sloping so that many visitors take advantage of them to bathe and relax and play skating.
In the area around the two waterfalls, there are many charming spots to use for selfies. But if you want a more beautiful background, you can go to the main waterfall with a height of about 25 meters.
With the natural surroundings and cool air, it will make anyone feel at home to linger around the waterfall. That is also why the manager provides a camping ground area for those who want to camp.
Price of admission
Open to the public from 08.00 to 17.00, the entrance ticket price for each visitor is IDR 5,000 plus a parking fee of IDR 2,000 for motorbikes and IDR 5,000 for cars.
For tourists who want to camp at tourist sites, there is an additional fee of IDR 7,000 per person.
Like waterfall tourism in Indonesia in general, there are a number of limited facilities in tourist areas. The facilities here are only in the form of a parking area which only has a capacity of about 7 four-wheeled vehicles.
In addition there are trails for tracking, trail and wooden shelters to make it easier for visitors to arrive at the location of the waterfall, bathrooms and toilets, as well as several food stalls.
There is also a camping ground area which is often used for Natural Love Basic Education and used as a place for traditional rituals by local residents. The camping area in this place is not only one place but there are several places, so tourists can freely choose.
