The thirst for historical knowledge becomes the fuel that can always ignite the spirit to hunt for royal relics and objects in the past. These objects are not only expensive in terms of knowledge, but also become expensive items when bought and sold.

Indonesia has an extraordinary past. This country is so rich in culture and history. Kingdom and occupation are inherent in the archipelago. Not surprisingly, there are so many historical remains in this country and many of them are still missing.

Kediri does have a long history, especially during the kingdom era. No wonder there is a museum that keeps a collection of historical objects. This museum is named Airlangga Museum.

A brief History

At first glance, the name of this place sounds quite historical, because Airlangga was one of the figures from the royal era. Of course, it is very suitable if used as a museum name. The building for storing historical objects was inaugurated in January 1992.

The collection of historical objects in this place comes from the storage of cultural heritage objects from Kediri Square. In 1951, the paseban alun-aln was demolished, so that the historical objects there were moved to the Kuak Baths or also known as the Tirtoyoso Baths.

The next 31 years, the bathhouse was confirmed as a regional museum with the name Tirtoyoso Museum. Over time, this museum has also undergone a development until now it has become the Airlangga Museum which is located in a different location.

The transfer of historical items from Tirtoyoso to Airlangga was carried out in 1991, from November to December.

Lots of collections owned by the Airlangga Museum. In this place where historical items are stored there are statues, inscriptions and ethnography. The structure plan for placing these items can be seen inside the museum to make it easier for visitors to navigate and see each collection in this place.

How to get there

If using public transportation, the trip can be started from Kediri Terminal. From here it is continued by taking an angkot with the letter “A” or the one that says “Selomangleng”.
