Deoksugung Palace was first called as Haenggung Palace (“Temporary Palace”) as it was used as the temporary residence of King Seonjo after the Japanese invasion in 1592. Afterward, it was renamed as Gyeongungung Palace then changed to today’s Deoksugung Palace in the spirit of the longevity of Emperor Gojong.
Deoksugung Palace is a historic site of late Joseon where traditional wooden buildings and Western architecture are preserved together. Also, the famous Deoksugung Stonewall Walkway is loved as a light walking trail on nice weather under the shade of trees.
